The F1 Mini Goldendoodle is a hybrid between an English Golden Retriever and purebred Miniature Poodle. This means that the puppies are 50 percent Poodle and 50 percent English Golden Retriever.

Their coat can be curly, loose or shaggy. Adult F1 Mini Goldendoodles usually weigh between 21 to 37 pounds and stand at 15″ to 20″ tall.

Many people like them for their temperament. Not all F1 Mini Goldendoodles will inherit the coat of the Poodle parent. Pups aged one to three may become aggressive and protective of their turf.

They may bark at strangers, noises, birds and flies or fight with other dogs. It’s important to train your dog on what he should ignore and what he should pay attention to.

You have to be patient and understanding during the process. If your dog behaves well, give him rewards and praise. The F1 Mini Goldendoodles are among the most trainable and intelligent breeds. They come in various colors, including gray, golden, black, champagne, ultra-cream and copper. These dogs can live for 10 to 15 years, provided that they are well taken care of.

If you are interested in getting an F1 Mini Goldendoodle, you should know these facts first.

7 Facts About the F1 Mini Goldendoodle

1. Can be hypoallergenic

If the F1 Mini Goldendoodle inherits the low-shedding coat of the Poodle parent, you won’t have to worry about dealing with fur-covered furniture. These dogs are ideal for those who have allergies, but still want to keep a pet.

However, they still need to be groomed to keep their coat soft. You can keep your pet’s coat clipped to save time. If you prefer their coat to be long, you should brush it thoroughly after returning from walks to prevent knots from forming.

2. Easy to identify

Most F1 Mini Goldendoodles look like teddy bears. Their coat is usually golden or tan in color. You can also find brown, red, white, silver and black Goldendoodles. The color of your Mini Goldendoodle depends on the color of the Poodle parent.

3. Excellent running partner

This breed needs at least 60 minutes of exercise every day. You have to provide them with brain games to keep them mentally stimulated. F1 Mini Goldendoodles are perfect for those who have an active lifestyle or home. You can walk them off leash as these dogs love walks both in fields and through the city.

The parent breeds of the F1 Mini Goldendoodle have a working background, so don’t be surprised if your dog also loves swimming and retrieving. The high energy level of this breed makes it a great running partner.

These dogs will eat between 450 and 900 calories daily because they have to use a large amount of energy. This means that you have to give them 1 to 2 cups of high quality kibble every day.

4. Gentle and friendly

These dogs are gentle and extremely friendly. They are also tolerant of other people and pets, provided that they are socialized early. F1 Mini Goldendoodles are eager to please, which makes training them easier.

5. Ideal for smaller homes

F1 Mini Goldendoodles are perfect for those who live in smaller spaces such as apartments and condos. Their small size means that they won’t occupy a lot of space in your home.

6. Hybrid designer dog

Since F1 Mini Goldendoodles are hybrid designer dogs, you can’t be completely sure of your pup’s temperament. Some may inherit more Poodle traits and can become destructive when they are frustrated or bored. It is also possible for your dog to be large in size.

7. Loves people

This breed is extremely friendly due to their Retriever genes as well as early socialization. These dogs are good with other pets and children. The fun loving nature of F1 Mini Goldendoodles, however, can also mean that they don’t like being left alone.

They can suffer from separation anxiety and show unwanted behavior such as digging, chewing and excessive barking. If you have to leave your dog, you have to find a dog walker or dog daycare where you can drop him off.

Health and Care

Feed your pet high quality food as it is packed with vitamins and protein. If you want to change his food, you should mix the new food with the one you’ve been using until his stomach adjusts to it. Don’t change his food regularly because it could lead to stomach upset and bloody stools. Consider your dog’s growth needs and individual size when selecting his food.

Leftovers can help you determine how many times you have to feed him. Some breeders recommend feeding pups 2 times a day once he turns 7 months old.  An overweight dog can suffer from mobility and joint problems like arthritis and hip dysplasia, so you should monitor his weight. You also need to make sure that he’s getting enough exercise. Twenty to thirty minutes of walk every day will be enough.

Allow your dog to engage in fun activities that will improve his mental and physical abilities. Get rid of any sharp objects or chemicals that they can reach.

Grooming

F1 Mini Goldendoodles don’t have a lot of grooming requirements since they are low shedding. Don’t bathe your pup too often as this will remove the natural oils that make his coat shiny.  You can give him a bath every 7 to 10 days. Dry him properly after you wash him and don’t forget to clip his toe nails as necessary and keep his coat trimmed.

Training

You can teach him basic commands like stay and sit. Don’t use physical punishment or violence to train your dog. Just say “no” firmly so that he will know that you don’t like his behavior. Praise him when he completes your task. Give commands in an affirmative tone.

Diseases

F1 Mini Goldendoodles could suffer from allergic dermatitis, an itchy skin problem caused by an allergic reaction to a certain substance in the environment. This breed can also suffer from diabetes mellitus, elbow dysplasia, ectopic ureter, epilepsy, food allergies, entropion, glaucoma, hip dysplasia and intervertebral disk disease. F1 Mini Goldendoodles could also develop hypothyroidism, seborrhea, cancer and hot spots.

Shedding

This breed is often considered to be hypoallergenic but keep in mind that the level of shedding differs from one dog to another. F1 Mini Goldendoodles generally shed less than other breeds. However, not all of them are considered hypoallergenic as it depends on the traits they inherit from their parents.

Unclipped fur may need frequent combing or brushing depending on his coat. Use a wide-toothed comb or pin brush when grooming your dog. Clipped fur requires weekly brushing and is more manageable than an unclipped one.
